Can you hear nature?

Today, I spent quite a bit of my time working outside, sitting outside reading and just listening to nature. Nature produces a thousand sounds all of which require us to concentrate and actually listen to hear since the sounds of nature have become ‘white noise’ in our modern society. It is so easy to walk outside and surround ourselves with ‘man-made’ sounds that we sometimes forget that the sounds of nature are beautiful. At this very moment outside my window I can hear the peaceful sounds of early evening crickets, an occasional mourning dove coo, and even the rustle of leaves as the wind passes by. What wonderful sounds; sounds that are somehow calming all the way to the depth of the soul. These are sounds that deep down, beneath all our trained societal pressures, link us to our roots, nature. We know and love these sounds just as we find peace and solitude by walking through nature. We need to train ourselves to tune out the man-made noises and to hear the sounds of nature, so that we can be more aware of nature. If we were all just a little more aware of nature, I truly believe that we as a society would start to realize how connected we are to nature, and therefore start doing things that would help nature. Then again, this is just life according to Troy.
