Back in 1992, the nations of the world got together to make the world a better place for all future generations by working to reduce the world’s climate crisis and reduce its use of non-renewable resources. This was the Kyoto Protocol, and was signed and ratified by nearly every nation in the world with the exception of the United States, the world’s largest contributor to the problem.
Our nation, with its newly elected president, has a chance to not only engage in the climate change solution, but lead the world to a better place. President-Elect Obama took a stand to be a supporter of climate change and alternative fuels, and now it is time to call him to action for us. Starting on December 1, 2008 in Poznan, Poland, the nations of the world will meet again to discuss the climate crisis. Although he will not yet be president, we would like him to be present as a representative of the United States to show that we are engaged in working toward a solution to this problem. As of yet, he has not yet agreed to go, although unofficial word is that a high level representative from his administration will be sent. Obviously, it is very important that we show the world that the United States is no longer turning its back on this problem. A group founded by Bill McKibben called 350.org has started an email campaign to President-Elect Obama to let him know that we, the people of world, want him to attend this very important meeting. I would encourage anyone interested in the climate change issue to please take a couple minutes and visit 350.org and click the link to send President-Elect Obama a quick email that you wish him to attend. There is nothing to do but simply fill in your email address and your name and click the button, it is that simple. While you are there, you might want to check out the 350.org site which explains why we need to get the world’s CO2 levels down to below 350 ppm. It is a wonderful site as would be expected by an environmental workhorse like Bill McKibben (for those who don’t know, he lives in the Vermont area).
Thanks for your support on this very important issue, and hopefully our actions will encourage larger actions. As always, this is Life According to Troy.
