With the high cost of food, and the scariness of not knowing where it came from, why not go a local farmer’s market? The people are always friendly, the produce is always fresh, and the prices are usually pretty good. We went this morning and we were able to get a nice head of cabbage and two small squash for $3.00; that price is hard to beat especially when it was just picked this morning. Here are a few farmers’ markets in the central Massachusetts area:
Lancaster – Thursdays 2pm – 6pm at the green (Take 117 to 70 south and you can’t miss it).
Greenfield – Saturday 8:30am – 12:30pm on the common (right downtown)
Hubbardston – Sunday 9am – 1pm in the park (Hwy 68 south from Gardner)
So, if you are in need of some really fresh produce at a reasonable price, and you want to support your local farmers, do some shopping at your local farmers’ market. Then again, this is just life according to Troy.
