It's Easy To Be Green - A presentation in Ashby

I will part of a group presenting on ‘green’ energy in Ashby, MA on Wednesday January 16, 2008 at 7pm at the Ashby Library. The Ashby library is located at 812 Main Street in Ashby. The program is free and includes the following speakers:

Bill Stan Wood – Can I really recycle all that?
What materials can Ashby residents currently recycle? (Hopefully all kinds of plastics and materials beyond what we might normally think of). Bring in your most unusual type of recyclable materials and challenge Bill. The Ashby Brownies will help bring in some examples of their own. How can we become better involved with the transfer station?
Ashby Recycling Center

Tamara Leclerc – What is it like to have an Off-grid Solar panel?
Tamara will answer questions like, how difficult or costly was it to build? Is it complicated to maintain. Are you saving money. What kinds of things can you hook up to off-grid electric power?

Troy Bottger (that’s me!) – Selling your Solar Electricity back to the Electric Company
Troy proudly owns and monitors his Solar array attached to the public electric grid.
Although I don't think he has yet spun the meter backwards, it is possible and legal to sell back to the company, in fact, they MUST buy it. He will answer questions like, how difficult or costly was it to build? How much daily or weekly maintanance does it require. Is there a lot of paperwork to follow to earn savings?, Are you saving money. What grants and programs are available that you know.

Roberta Flashman and friends – Green, Easy ideas for the house and garden.

Karl Stuedel– How I got Unitil to partially pay for my insulation.
Karl got a free energy assessment, free bulbs, and bought new, attractive, energy efficient lamps, for $10 each. Next, he plans to get the half priced insulation for his attic. He explains how Unitil periodically offers similar energy audits and discounts.
