In our ‘rush, rush, rush’ society, it is very hard to even think about slowing down for a minute to “smell the roses”, but I’m here to tell you, it does wonders for your stress level and your appreciation of the world. About a week ago, I took some time (about an hour or so), and just sat on the porch and strung some beans for drying. Because it was a task that didn’t really force me to really focus on what I was doing, I was able to allow my mind to drift, floating from topic to topic, and just doing some imaginative thinking. After I was done, I felt so relaxed, and still felt accomplished because I had strung up some beans.
Am I suggesting we all get some beans to dry, and spend some time stringing them up? No, of course not, but what I am suggesting is that we all take a little time and just do some imaginative thinking. Let your mind drift, and see where it takes you. As children our imaginations seemed boundless as we looked at everything with awe and wonder. Why don’t we have that sense of wonder as we grow older? Do we lose it, or just forget to take time to acknowledge that little child in all of us that wonders how something works, or why things happen the way they do?
So why don’t you take some time right now and just let your mind drift, thinking about things that you haven’t for years, and reconnecting with that child in all of us, the child that asks the questions that we all want to know. Then again, this is just life according to Troy.
