When you were growing up, how many times did you hear, “turn off the lights when you leave room”, or “turn off the TV is your not watching it”? Well, as annoying as those little statements may have been, our parents were actually right (happy now Mom and Dad!). A lot of the electricity we use is wasted electricity. How many times do you turn on a radio, TV or computer and then not turn it off when you done? Get up and walk around your house and count how many electric devices and lights are on but not being used? Don’t forget to count all those ‘charging devices’ that seem to come with every cell phone, MP3 player and computer.
Did you find a lot of things on really didn’t need to be? Now the real question is, did you turn them off or leave them on? By simply turning off devices when they are not in use you can actually save a noticeable amount on your electric bill and in the process save a lot of electricity. My wife and I have definitely seen a reduction in our electric bill after simply making a mental note to turn things off when we weren’t using them.
So, next time you walk out of room and know that you are not coming right back, why not just turn off everything you were using and save a little electricity and money. Then again, this is life according to Troy.
