Obviously the problem of global warming is bigger then anything any one of us can solve, and it is easy to get overwhelmed by the problems such as ice shelves melting and temperatures rising. I am here to tell you though that even the smallest things you do everyday can make a difference. Here are just a few things that you might try as you head out for some spring/summer outings:
- Buy a reusable bottle and take it with you filled with your favorite beverage instead of buying one everywhere you go. This not only saves you the money of buying an expensive drink somewhere, but saves on producing and throwing away a disposable container that will end up in a landfill.
- Walk, bike, or take public transportation whenever you can. I know I find it very easy to just jump in the car to run down to where ever when it is really only a couple miles a way. If you have the time, taking a walk, or a quick bike ride not only saves fuel (and with these prices who doesn’t like that), but also wear and tear on your car (plus you get to enjoy the fresh air!). Public transportation is also a wonderful alternative if your destination is not a quick walk away. I know that when I go into the city, I take public transportation everywhere because I just don’t want to fight the traffic, and deal with finding a parking spot. Plus, by taking public transportation I get to see a lot more of the city.
- Need to cool off from the summer heat? Instead of heading to a pool or a water park, why not head to your local park with a swimming lake? By doing so, you are supporting your city/state park system; all the proceeds from which go right back into the park system.
I know none of these seem like ideas that will change the affect of global warming, but if we all did little things like these, the problem would slowly disappear. So, as you are going about your days and nights, just think of the little things that you can do to make a big difference. Then again, this is just Life According To Troy.
